Treo to iPhone 3G – A Lawyer's Perspective

Grant Griffiths’, author of Home Office Warrior, Home Office Lawyer and founder of G2WebMedia, a blossoming company offering individualized blogs for lawyers, has a great guest post by Chris Nichols, a lawyer and blogger on North Carolina Trial Blog.  Chris recently made the switch from a Treo 650 to an iPhone 3G and blogs about every step of the process from standing in line to importing his contacts.

Home Office LawyerChris notes on importing contacts, that though “some folks have it easy…if you use Outlook, you can export to the iPhone. If you use Yahoo to store contacts or even Google to store contacts, there is a direct “import” into the iPhone.”  Unfortunately, Chris uses the Treo Desktop for his contacts and so had to export these to Yahoo and then import them into his iPhone.  True to Murphy’s Law things didn’t go that easily for Chris, but he persevered and has a functioning iPhone with maybe too many contacts on it.

Perhaps the most ironic thing about Chris’ adventure is that in the middle of his switch to an iPhone, his trusty 1.5 year old Toshiba Satellite A-105 died on him.  So what’s Chris to do now that he has one foot through the Apple doorway?  I’ll let him tell you, but here’s a hint…he’s been seen fondling Macbook Pro’s at his local Apple store.

Welcome to the fold Chris.  Resistance is useless.

    I couldn't believe it either, I mean, I know they aren't built like a Mac, but 1.5 years is simply a rip-off.
  • Great post! 1.5 years only for his Toshiba? That's awful!
  • Finis-

Thanks for the kind remarks and the linkage. Chris did a great job on his guest post and it is great to have guys like him join the Apple family.
