We were really excited to learn of QuickOffice’s Mobile Office Suite which finally allows iPhone users to edit Word documents. Their previous offering Quicksheet allowed the editing of Excel docs so it was just a matter of time until they got around to handling Word documents. We were preparing our review of the product and then we read yesterday’s posting on iPhone J.D, a great blog published by our friend Jeff Richardson. He has just posted their review of it and we liked it so much we realized there was no need to add to it. If iPhone J.D isn’t in your RSS Feed or list of blogs you read every morning, it really should be.
While we like the ability to edit Word documents, we still don’t see the need for practicing attorneys. Exactly how often would you be needing to edit a Word document on your iPhone and if you were planning on editing a document while out of the office, wouldn’t you have your notebook with you?
Regardless of our questions as to the utility of this app, it’s been one thing former/current blackberry users have touted as the Achilles Heel of the iPhone. However, as you can see from Jeff’s comments, while he likes QuickOffice’s Mobile Office Suite, you may want to hold off for DataViz’s Documents To Go which is supposed to do the same thing, but may address some of the issues with QuickOffice’s shortcomings. It is still a great app in our opinion and worth the $20. If you would like to download Mobile Office suite you can do so here.
