The Sony E-Reader, MRSP $349.00, is one of two pdf and e-book readers which utilize the new e-ink technology which will hopefully one day allow us to replace newspapers and books with a material which is flexible and re-usable while maintaining the high-contrast and readability of actual paper. E-ink only requires power from the unit’s battery to refresh the display, not to keep the text on the screen as LCD’s do, thereby allowing the viewer to display up to 7,500 pages of text before recharging. Weighing only 9 oz. and with a viewing screen of slightly less than seven inches, this viewer’s screen is about the size of a paperback book and its display is even viewable in daylight unlike tablet PC’s. This is an amazing little device as it will play mp3’s, view PDF’s, e-books and JPG’s from its internal 64 MB memory or the memory card reader. As I use Adobe Professional to attach notes to depositions and my client’s digitized medical records, this little viewer would allow me to view my previously annotated depositions and medical records on the road, deposition, or mediation. Additionally, I can use it to keep up with reading material when I’m not in an area where I can pop open my notebook. Hopefully, my wife will grace me with one this Christmas.
UPDATE: Well, my wife was very wonderful to me this Christmas and indeed gave me the sony e-Reader. I will be posting about my experiences with it throughout depositions and reading documents once I have had the opportunity to fully use it. *** read another month or so.
