I debated for some time about whether to post on this great device charger I received for Christmas. The issue was whether this was legal/technologically oriented or is it just a geek thing. I finally decided that this is more of a professional/technological item and thus was certainly within the arena of this blog. Now since I haven’t been getting too many comments posted to the blog, just private emails which I do appreciate, I’ll leave this post up until someone makes a comment that it doesn’t quite fit.

Prior to this, I would have charging cables scattered throughout my house and I would be constantly looking for the charger to my Blackberry, my new E-reader or my bluetooth headset for my Blackberry, which ALL use different chargers. Not to mention having to ask her where she had hidden them from me under the guise of “cleaning up behind me”. Inside of the base of the chargers is a power strip which you access through a panel in the rear. My Brookstone model came with power strip extensions which convert your block style chargers into the regular three prong plugs so you actually get to use all of the available plugs on the power strip. The power connectors are then fed through holes up to each charging “bay” and the slot in front. The Brookstone model even comes with velcro straps to bind all of the excess cable so that it fits nicely in the rear access panel with the power strip. You wouldn’t believe how wonderful it is to have all of your connectors in one location with your wallet, watch, etc… Of course, this wouldn’t be necessary if these companies would follow the lead of Motorola and other cell phone makers and use the standard USB port for charging. These charging stations fill the gap nicely for me… at least until I get my iPhone.
