Well, it was bound to happen. Unconfirmed reports at one of my favorite sites, Gizmodo, are alleging the iPhone has been unlocked.
Gizmodo reports that there is much traffic on the Bladox Forums concerning unlocking the iPhone using a Turbo SIM card and some software on your iPhone. (Unlocking a cellphone allows the phone to work on any cellphone carrier) If these reports are correct, my prediction is a flood of new purchases of iPhones given the large (read gargantuan) number of people who have not purchased an iPhone due to its umbelical cord to AT&T cellular service. Gizmodo has ordered their Turbo SIM card and will report their results once it has arrived. I’ll keep you posted.

Now readers have emailed me saying they’ve noticed my lack of iPhone-chat as of late. This is due to my desire to not be like every other blog and analyse my iPhone to death. For those wondering, yes I still like it and am anxiously awaiting an update to fix the lack of cut and paste, search, and the ability to do household chores. A number of hacks to the iPhone have already been accomplished, allowing the installation of custom ring-tones and event sounds, installation of true third-party applications wirelessly and of course games (so far they have NES games playing and Doom is playing but not controllable yet).
Now I know you Treo users will say that games and custom tones are old-hat, but does your Treo do videoconferencing?! It’s ugly, but it works.
